September 24, 2022 Bylaws Committee Report Submitted By Nancy Marmesh, Chair
I’d like to start by thanking the Bylaws Committee members. They have been more than willing to meet and work together to complete our tasks. We have a fantastic team. The Bylaws Committee would like to thank the chapters that have already submitted their Chapter Rules for review during this biennium. We have seen and reviewed some excellent work. We also want to remind members that it’s not too late to update your Chapter Rules and email a copy to your FL Bylaws representative. Any chapter needing help with this task should let us know. Our committee had 2 members in attendance at the International Convention in New Orleans. There were 120 amendment proposals submitted. Since it wasn’t feasible to cover all the amendments in the time frame allowed, the amendment proposals were prioritized for discussion and voting. Our committee is currently evaluating how the newly approved amendments to the Constitution will guide proposed changes to our Florida State Bylaws and Standing Rules. We are also encouraging members and chapters to examine the Florida State Bylaws and submit amendment proposals to the committee for consideration at the Florida State Convention in April 2023.The changes made to the Constitution and the amendment proposal form will be available on the Bylaws Committee page of the FL DKG Website. We’ll also have copies at our Bylaws breakout session. Remember that any proposed changes to the Bylaws must be published in the Florida Rays at least 60 days prior to the State convention. Any member may submit an amendment proposal, but proposed changes must be postmarked by Nov.1, 2022. Thank you.
Committee Responsibilities and Duties:
According to the Bylaws themselves, the main focus is to draft bylaws changes and present them for approval of the members at the State convention. This committee has a prescribed membership and must consist of 2 State officers; one past State president; and 3 members of the Society who are serving or have served as chapter presidents. The parliamentarian serves as an ex officio member, without vote.
